Dumb & Dumber

I

was having a strangely calm moment at the office (it happens only once or twice a year, so better savor it) and therefore I was taking the chance to look for some nice quotes about technology on the Net (like the ones you can read in the sidebar widget on this site).

One of the best I found was by Georgie-Porgie Bush and under it, I found the following Tags: dumb“, “technology.

By the way, I was reading the technology-related quotes on this website.

Anyway, since I never was, am, or will ever be the most fervent supporter of Georgie-Porgie (beside to fully acknowledge his unmistakable high dumbness-of-speech content, so to say), I was intrigued about finding out how many “dumb quotes” on his name were collected in there.

While I was malignantly expecting to find pages and pages of them, I was pleasantly – not really – surprised to find only three pages. Nevertheless, those meager three pages totaled to 79 ‘dumb’ quotes. Of those 79, an unsurprisingly high number (32) was attributed to Georgie-Porgie and his entourage, further to be subdivided in 22 dumb quotes by Georgie-Porgie in person, 3 by a member of his family and finally 7 by his father’s Vice-President (alright, the ones by his family members may be genetically dependent, but that affecting his Vice President… What’s that: “dumbness by proxy”?).

I’m not a big fan of statistics because you can manipulate data and prove with them almost anything – even contradicting statements – but still we can say that if that website collects the average representation of all dumb quotes that have made it to the media during the last couple of decades, then Georgie-Porgie & Co. were representing almost 50% of the world’s dumbness (40.5% to be more specific), which is to say that if you were in a random place where 10 Village Idiots were having their annual reunion, you could have found at least four of them that could make a more significant – if not intelligent – statement than a former President of the United States.

Such a conclusion moves you to ponder a thing or two about statistics, human nature and the soundness of the American Way of Life…

Now you also see why I’m not particularly fond of statistics, even if they can help supporting the by now generally accepted view that the world would have been better off if Georgie-Porgie had held a subordinate position at the local Walmart instead.

To the day of today it still escapes my understanding how in heaven’s name a whole Nation, or the majority of it anyway (if we want to believe that Presidential Elections in the US are fair and democratic), could ever elect such a poignantly unfit person to hold the highest command-post of one of the mightiest Countries on this planet.

Ah well, some questions might better remain unanswered…

Here below a couple of ‘gems’ I found:

“There are cameras nowadays that have been developed to tell the difference between a squirrel and a bomb.”
– George W. Bush

“It’s time for the human race to enter the solar system.”
– Dan C. Quayle

“It is wonderful to be here in the great state of Chicago”
– Dan C. Quayle

“One of the great things about books is sometimes there are some fantastic pictures.”
– George W. Bush

“Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.”
– George W. Bush

“I think war is a dangerous place.”
– George W. Bush

I’ll never stop questioning the mental sanity of the American People.
